Dr. Krishna Chandra Devkota serves as the Vice Chairman of the Gandaki Province Policy and
Planning Commission in Nepal, where he combines his expertise in disaster-resilient development
with his experience as a policy expert. Born in Palungtar-3, Gorkha, he earned his PhD in Geology
from Kyungpook National University, South Korea, in February 2011. His academic foundation
and professional trajectory have positioned him as a key contributor to disaster risk management
and sustainable development efforts in Nepal and the Asia-Pacific region.
Dr. Devkota has held prominent roles in both national and international organizations. He worked
as a Research Fellow at the Global Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (GIIS) in Kathmandu, a
Disaster Risk Management Specialist at Terrasense Switzerland Pvt. Ltd., and a DRM Technical
Specialist at the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center in Bangkok. He also served as a Senior
Researcher at the National Disaster Management Institute under the Korean Government.
As a dedicated researcher, Dr. Devkota has published extensively in reputable journals, including
Natural Hazards and Landslides. His research encompasses landslide risk management, disaster-
resilient infrastructure development, and post-earthquake reconstruction. Among his many
contributions, he played a pivotal role in strategic projects such as the Kathmandu-Terai/Madhesh
Fast Track (Expressway) Project.
Dr. Devkota's commitment to understanding and mitigating the impacts of climate change and
geohazards on infrastructure, the economy, and society highlights his efforts to integrate science-
based solutions into policy, promoting resilience and sustainable development in Nepal and
beyond.
